Fantastic scenery at Gigjökull in Thorsmörk. Marianne 09.03.2017

It was a sudden decision in Wintermärchen tour (translated winter fairy tale) to turn into Thorsmörk, what is always a big adventure as several creeks and rivers are needed to be crossed. After a shaking drive on a track with holes, snowy parts and through water Best Travel’s small group catched a great morning at Gigjökull. Nobody had arrived here as yet the same day. The sun climbed high enough to shine over Eyjafjallajökull into the valley. The landscape was lighted up in fascinating way. It was rather warm and no wind to feel. The mountains were shown in a mirror in water ponds. Just Gigjökull got no sunlight but the changes of the eruption of 2010 and the melting of the glacier were clearly visible. The road from Hvalfjördur to Thingvellir is unshoveled. 26.02.2017

After a heavy storm hit Iceland a huge amount of snow covers the west and south of Iceland. Most of the snow fell over night in Reykjavik and Borgarnes, 50 cm! There was no time to shovel every road before evening. Best Travel enjoyed a adventures day on roads with thick layers of snow in fantastic sunshine and travelled from Stykkisholmur to Minni Borgir during the tour Wintermärchen unter Nordlichtern.

Best Travel at Öndverdarnes lighthouse. 25.02.2017

It’s great to spend one or more days on Snaefellsnes peninsula in West Iceland. There are so many different places to explore and it’s fantastic to spend more than just few minutes on same spot. After a stormy days huge waves were to find, snowshowers and sunshine changed very quickly, but Icelands best top model Kirkjufell was to picture perfectly. The magic glacier lagoon Jökulsarlon. 04.02.2017

Today there is no snow in Southeast Iceland. At the Glacier Lagoon and in Skaftafell Nationalparc glaciers and ice are clean and in the lagoon of a deep blue. It’s always a fantastic moment there. As it was windy before the high tide carried many icecubes streaming out of the lagoon to the sea back to the absolutely black beach, that got it’s name of the ice laying like diamonds on it – Diamond Beach.
