From North to West with waterfalls, herring and visiting Agnes

Church of Tjörn on Vatnsnes peninsula where Agnes and Fridrik are buried. 06.02.2018

When coming from the East up North we had to travel through the storm hitting Iceland. But we made it slowly but safely. But we got another two interesting days, yesterday with a nice stop at Godafoss waterfall and visiting Siglufjördur and the fantastic Herring Museum. Today we had to drive all the way from Akureyri to Borgarfjördur. A couple of Australia is actually in my group and they told me they read Burial Rites of Hannah Kent, the Australian author telling the story of the last execution in Iceland, the beheading of Agnes and Fridrik. As I driverguide I’m rather flexible on tour and I decided to drive Vatnsnes peninsula to the church of Tjörn where the bodies of Agnes and Fridrik are buried. I will definitely watch the movie they start soon to shoot. Even the days are still rather short we made it to Borgarfjördur and the special lava waterfalls Hraunfossar on time to have some daylight there. We were again very lucky today as in the area around Reykjavik every road is closed due to snow storm. Let’s see what Snaefellsnes Peninsula has ready for us tomorrow… Yes, I love my job and having a look at the pictures, the blue light of winter is still avaible. Enjoy the picture gallery.
