Iceland can be a very windy destination and in worst case loose sand is just blowing around. On it’s last tour around Iceland our 4×4 Sprinter was hit by flying sand or even small stones in the Southern part of East Iceland and unfortunately one window broke. Nobody was hurt, not more happened, just this window was damaged. Thanks to our connections the window was soon taped and the trip could safely continue. The travelling group wasn’t very large and everybody got still a good view during the tour. Yesterday the 4×4 Sprinter came home to Keflavik. A new window is already ordered in Poland at Mercus where the bus was produced and we are optimistic the window will be repaired in short time. We are happy not more happened and hope of course the travellers got nevertheless a nice tour in Iceland. If you travel on your own take always care of the weather forecast at the vedur website and check out the road conditions where you can find the speed of wind and gusts. Be aware sand storms can come up in Iceland and try to buy a window protection insurance for your rental car. Best Travel wishes everybody a safe and nice trip.
